Hey Everyone!
Hope you’re all settling into the fall routine – whether that’s getting the kids back to school or just enjoying the slightly cooler mornings (finally!). We’ve got some exciting updates to share, plus a couple of maintenance topics that’ll help keep your European beauty running like it should.
First things first – we’re celebrating some awesome people this month!
Happy Birthday to Leo! Our Audi and Land Rover specialist is turning another year wiser (and somehow even better at diagnosing those mysterious electrical gremlins). Leo’s been with us for a while now, and honestly, we don’t know what we’d do without his knack for solving the “impossible” problems.
Chuck’s birthday is this month too! If you’ve got a Maserati, Alfa Romeo, or stubborn old BMW classic, you already know Chuck’s magic touch. The man can make an Alfa purr like it’s brand new – and that’s saying something!
And here’s some big news: We’ve welcomed Evan to the Flyin Wrench family! Evan specializes in exotic rebuilds and maintenance, so if you’ve got something really special in your garage (think Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren), you’re in incredibly capable hands. The guy’s portfolio is impressive, and his attention to detail is exactly what these machines deserve.
Speaking of getting back into routines – now’s the perfect time to tackle those maintenance items you’ve been putting off. We’re offering 20% off any previously deferred services if you get them scheduled before September 15th.
You know the drill – that brake flush you’ve been meaning to do, the suspension service that “can wait another month,” or maybe that timing belt that’s getting close to interval. Let’s be honest, summer got busy, but your car doesn’t care about your vacation schedule. Take advantage of this discount and get caught up before the holidays hit.
Here’s something most people don’t realize: European cars are particularly sensitive to cooling system neglect, and fall is actually the perfect time to address it.
While you might think cooling system issues are just a summer problem, the truth is that temperature fluctuations during seasonal changes are hard on your system. Especially in this Georgia temperament. BMW, Mercedes, Audi – they all run tight tolerances, and their cooling systems work harder than you’d expect.
What you should know: Most European manufacturers recommend cooling system flushes every 3-4 years, not just when something goes wrong. The coolant isn’t just about temperature – it’s protecting against corrosion, maintaining proper pH levels, and keeping those expensive aluminum components from deteriorating.
Red flags to watch for: Sweet smell when you park, white residue around the cap, or that temperature gauge creeping higher than usual. Don’t wait until you’re stranded – these systems fail fast when they decide to go.
Let’s talk about one of the biggest myths in European car maintenance: “lifetime” transmission fluid.
BMW, Mercedes, and others started marketing their automatics as having “lifetime” fluid to reduce perceived maintenance costs. But here’s the reality – they mean the “lifetime” of the warranty period, not the actual life of your car.
The truth: That fluid breaks down, gets contaminated, and loses its protective properties. Most independent transmission specialists (and honest dealership techs) will tell you that changing it every 60,000-80,000 miles can literally double your transmission’s lifespan.
Why it matters for you: Transmission replacements on European cars aren’t cheap. We’re talking $4,000-$8,000+ depending on your model. A $300-400 fluid change every few years is the cheapest insurance you’ll ever buy.
Pro tip: If your car has over 100,000 miles and you’ve never changed the fluid, come talk to us first. Sometimes high-mileage transmissions need special care, and we’ll give you the honest assessment of whether a change makes sense or if you should just monitor it.
Your European car was engineered to be amazing, but it needs the right care to stay that way. We’re not here to sell you stuff you don’t need – we’re here to help you make smart decisions about the car you love.
Questions about anything? Just call or stop by. We’re always happy to take a look and give you straight answers.
Drive safe,
